Currently I am a Solution Architect for Multidots, an enterprise WordPress agency. Previously, I worked as a technical generalist for Liquid Web’s StellarWP family of brands, weaving between marketing, product development, and design teams, writing, editing, and QA in each area. I mostly focused on the SolidWP (formerly iThemes) suite of plugins, especially Solid Security. From 2016 to 2023, I was the editor of Post Status, a wonderful part of the WordPress community for people making a living with WordPress and learning together. There, I learned, wrote, and did podcasts on the business and culture of WordPress.

I got started with web design, development, and open source web applications when I was studying the history of authorship, reading, and publishing. After leaving the academic world to raise a family, the next logical step was to launch a consultancy, New Local Media. I’ve accumulated over a decade of university teaching experience in Canada and the US in English departments, and I’ve done a lot of public speaking in other contexts. Journalism in and outside the WordPress space has always been another hat I enjoy wearing. I helped start and nurture a small newspaper in Milwaukee, WI in 2002 that is still active today.
